Khushii NGO sows the seeds for success

Surviving in an urban-slum like Dakshinpuri is challenging enough, with problems like lack of access to clean drinking water, sanitation and water related diseases, limited access to affordable healthcare, high population density being just some of the factors that hamper the development of the community residing there. Diseases and infections are at an arm’s length, while access to effective healthcare is limited.

Gajala, a 19 year old teenager residing in Dakshinpuri, grew up with the same challenges. Her father, who works as a plumber in the same locality, could barely earn enough to for a family of 8 members. He was the sole bread earner of the house

Barely scraping on their father’s salary, she had to be the helping hand to make the ends meet. Being a class 8 dropout, Gajala couldn't get a job. Finding no way out of her situation, Gajala was losing all hope after the initial efforts.

Sharing her despair with a friend lead her to know about Khushii’s Skill Development Centre in their own community be the name of “KALA”. She contacted the project co-ordinator at Devli. Counselling session with the coordinator educated her with the range of possibilities associated with the “Beauty & Wellness” course being run at KALA under the aegis of VLCC Ltd.

Determined to change her living conditions, she joined the course with utmost enthusiasm and conviction. During the course of the program, she was extremely hardworking and resolved to be amongst the best in the business. She gained confidence by interacting with her faculty, taking positive feedbacks and constantly raising the bar for her work.

With dedication & hard-work she successfully completed her course. A certification from VLCC, which is the leading name in beauty and wellness in India, added a lot of credibility to her skill training. Gajala now works with a famous Skin Touch beauty parlour in Lajpat Nagar and earns ?8,000/month, which is a lot of added support to her father’s income.

Apart from skill training, Gajala got a lot of insight into networking and business development at Khushii. She is in talks with Urban Clap, which is an online platform for professionals to get in touch with their potential customers.
